Expansion joints and structural gaps

Most buildings and engineering facilities have expansion joints for relief of stress accumulating in their concrete structural components. Such joints should be sealed against permeation of smoke and flame and the seal should have a relevant fire resistance class. Typically, the seal consist of mineral wool covered with a fire-proofing material.
